Our Work

At Rwandan Canadian Healing Centre, we are driven by our and our Mission to build a Healing Centre for all those who struggle with Post-Traumatic Syndrome Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related effects, and our Vison to server as a multi-dimensional (PTSD) research and development platform – through traditional and Innovation approaches, for the purpose of education, healing, and rebuild, as well as aiding in the efforts of advocacy against PTSD and related effects. With a commitment to achieve wellness, we focus on project and programs that help our members, participants, and who we come across in our work learn and understand their identity, their challenges, and paths they are to walk in life. More importantly, we help them learn to purse their (True-East) purpose, by applying learned lessons to serve their mission on an individual as well as community levels. We understand that to realizing our organization’s goals, we must first create alliances and partnership to solve current challenges, such as poverty, lack of capacity and good governance.

Strategies
        for change

Research shows that Canadians of African descent are more
than twice as likely as those in the overall population to
have low incomes. According to statistics Canada. Looking
at the state of the Black communities globally, there are
much more evidence of transgenerational traumas – causes
by slavery, colonization, and occupation of indigenous
people across the world, in addition to the already existing
traumas caused by poverty and wars.

We believe real change will happen if we work to solve, not only traumas which occurred in our lifetime, but by also engaging transgenerational trauma, and by creating real, organic, and home-based solutions by and for affected communities, in order for these communities to truly solve their current challenges as well as those yet to come. That’s why our work involves encouraging partnership and collaboration across sectors for our project participants, members, as well as our partners.

Our Learnings

We believe in the power of individual philosophy, solution-oriented initiative(s) and the mastery of one’s given challenges in life. Therefore, transferring of knowledge from generation to generation, from professionals to students, and from masters to initiates is an important part of our work; and a key fact in our programs.
